Böögg Decoration

Have you ever heard of Böögg? 

If you’ve ever been in Zurich in the month of April you may well have experienced The Sechseläuten festival which culminates in the parade of the Zünfte and burning of The Böögg who represents winter. The Böögg is a large snowman "rag doll" with fireworks in its hat which is sat on top of a large bonfire in central Zurich. 

Some believe how long it takes for the Böögg to explode predicts how good the summer will be. 

Whatever you think of the Böögg's powers of weather predication this is a great opportunity to send a Zurich tradition to a loved one perhaps as a souvenir of their own visit to Zurich or to entice them to come and visit you in Zurich one April.

The ornament is a combination of my illustration and ink paintings. It includes details such as the Zurich canton flag coloured bow tie, the broom the Böögg holds and the pipe he smokes. The hat is depicted with snow-like details. It is attached to the Christmas/backing card with twisted cord in the colours of the Zurich canton flag which is used to hang the decoration on your tree, fireplace or other hanging spaces you wish to display him. 

The decoration is available on a backing card or as a Christmas Greeting Card. The decoration is detachable and when removed from the card there is a printed version of the Böögg on the card so the image remains intact after the decoration is removed. 

Both the backing card and the greeting card depict a smokey scene with a faint outside of the Zurich opera house, and the Böögg over the wood and flames of the bonfire that is set to scare away winter.

The greeting card includes the words “Warm Winter Wishes FROM ZURICH”.

With a blurb on the back of this Christmas card this is a great way to share this Swiss tradition with friends and family this Christmas. 

Printed on quality, textured, soft white 5x7 card this card comes with an envelope and a protective card for posting.

Please note that Birch Plywood is a natural material which means that the colour, grain, and texture of each decoration will be slightly different from those photographed. The wood grain may also be visible adding character to the ornament.
